AM-FM Separation Using Auditory-motivated Filters - Speech and Audio Processing, IEEE Transactions on

چکیده
An approach to the joint estimation of sine-wave amplitude modulation (AM) and frequency modulation (FM) is described based on the transduction of frequency modulation into amplitude modulation by linear filters, being motivated by the hypothesis that the auditory system uses a similar transduction mechanism in measuring sine-wave FM. An AM-FM estimation algorithm is described that uses the amplitude envelope of the output of two transduction filters of piecewise-linear spectral shape. The piecewise-linear constraint is then relaxed, allowing a wider class of transduction-filter pairs for AM-FM separation under a monotonicity constraint on the filters’ quotient. The particular case of Gaussian filters is shown to yield a closed-form solution to AM-FM estimation while gammatone filters, used as a simplified model of auditory filters, and measured auditory filters, although not leading to a solution in closed form, provide for iterative AM-FM estimation. Solution stability analysis and error evaluation are performed and the FM transduction method is compared with the energy separation algorithm, based on the Teager energy operator, and the Hilbert transform method for AM-FM estimation. Finally, a generalization to two-dimensional (2-D) filters is described.

Adaptive AM-FM Signal Decomposition With Application to Speech Analysis
In this paper, we present an iterative method for the accurate estimation of amplitude and frequency modulations (AM–FM) in time-varying multi-component quasi-periodic signals such as voiced speech. Based on a deterministic plus noise representation of speech initially suggested by Laroche et al. (“HNM: A simple, efficient harmonic plus noise model for speech,” Proc. WASPAA, Oct., 1993, pp. 169...
متن کاملA comparison of auditory and blind separation techniques for speech segregation
A fundamental problem in auditory and speech processing is the segregation of speech from concurrent sounds. This problem has been a focus of study in computational auditory scene analysis (CASA), and it has also been recently investigated from the perspective of blind source separation. Using a standard corpus of voiced speech mixed with interfering sounds, we report a comparison between CASA ...
متن کاملAM-FM energy detection and separation in noise using multiband energy operators
This paper develops a multiband or wavelet approach for capturing the AM-FM components of modulated signals immersed in noise. The technique utilizes the recently-popularized nonlinear energy operator Y (s) = (S)'-ss to isolate the AM-FM energy, and an energy separation algorithm (ESA) to extract the instantaneous amplitudes and frequencies. It is demonstrated that the performance of the energy...
متن کاملOriented texture completion by AM-FM reaction-diffusion
We provide an automated method to repair broken, occluded oriented image textures. Our approach is based on partial differential equations (PDEs) and AM–FM image modeling. Reconstruction of the texture occurs via simultaneous PDE-generated diffusion and reaction. In the diffusion process, the image is adaptively smoothed, preserving important boundaries and features. The reaction process produc...
متن کاملA computationally efficient multipitch analysis model
A computationally efficient model for multipitch and periodicity analysis of complex audio signals is presented. The model essentially divides the signal into two channels, below and above 1000 Hz, computes a “generalized” autocorrelation of the low-channel signal and of the envelope of the high-channel signal, and sums the autocorrelation functions. The summary autocorrelation function (SACF) ...
